NC State men's soccer announced that graduate defender Kendall Edwards and junior midfielder Will Buete have been named team captains for the 2023 season.
"Our program has a great group of leaders, and I am excited for Kendall and Will to be our team captains," said head coach George Kiefer. "These men work hard at their craft on the field and embody our culture and our core values. Their passion for this game and this Pack is contagious. Will and Kendall have earned the respect of their teammates, coaches and staff, and we're proud to have them leading us as captains in 2023."
A native of Lilburn, Ga., Edwards prepares for his fifth and final season with the Wolfpack. He has made 48 career appearances and earned the starting nod in 34 of those contests. That includes playing and starting in all 17 of the Pack's matches during the 2022 campaign, a season in which he totaled 1,543 minutes and played 90+ minutes in all but two games. Edwards has consistently played a vital role in NC State's back line, one that contributed to six Wolfpack shutouts last season.
Buete, who hails from Wake Forest, N.C., stepped into a starting role in 2022 as he earned the nod in each of the 16 games that he played in. He scored his first career goal, the game-winning penalty kick against High Point, and also added an assist to total three points for the Pack last year. Buete played a total of 1,246 minutes in his sophomore campaign and had eight 90+ minute outings.Â
