#Pack9 Falls in Series Finale to Clemson

RALEIGH – NC State baseball dropped the series finale 8-5 to Clemson on Sunday afternoon at Doak Field at Dail Park.
Cannon Peebles led the NC State (25-14, 8-12 ACC) offense, going 3-for-4 at the plate. Peebles launched two home runs for three RBI in the contest for his second multi-home run game of the season, leading the Pack with three hits, two runs scored and three RBI on the afternoon.
Clemson (25-16, 9-9 ACC) got on the board first in the top of the second after Riley Betram scored on a wild pitch. Betram led off the inning with a single up the middle, advancing to third after a stolen base and a throwing error.
The Clemson offense stretched its lead in the third, scoring five runs on seven hits to take a 6-0 lead. The Tigers led off the inning with five consecutive hits before recording an out. Baker Nelson entered in the inning to record the final out of the frame.
NC State's offense responded in the bottom half of the third to cut the deficit to 6-1. After Parker Nolan reached on a Tiger error and back-to-back walks drawn by Kalae Harrison and Will Marcy, LuJames Groover III drove in Nolan on a sacrifice fly to left field.
In the fourth, Trevor Candelaria led off the inning with a single to left field before Peebles blasted a two-run home run to left field to trim the deficit in half at 6-3.
Clemson scored a single run in the fifth and sixth innings to trade scores with the Wolfpack, holding an 8-5 advantage after the sixth inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, Jacob Cozart recorded an RBI groundout to continue the Pack scoring for the fourth consecutive inning. Peebles then launched a solo shot in the sixth inning for his second of the day to trim the deficit to 8-5.
The Pack and Tigers traded zeros in the final three frames as Casey Tallent, Rob Hughes and Tristan Smith each recorded scoreless innings for the Tigers. Smith picked up the save after recording the final three outs of the series.
NC State relievers John Miralia, Andrew Shaffner, Rio Britton and Carson Kelly combined to toss three scoreless innings to end the game, allowing just one hit with a pair of strikeouts over the final third of the contest.
Groover III and Harrison joined Peebles with a mutli-hit performance as the pair of infielders recorded two hits apiece.
