
Pack Sets ACC Record, Picks up Multiple All-American Honors on Night Two of NCAA Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. — The NC State men's swimming and diving team continued its success on the second day of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships as the team set an ACC record in the 200-yard freetstyle relay and picked up All-American or Honorable Mention All-American honors in all four swimming events.Â
Through two full days of competition at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatics Center, NC State sits in fourth place with 151.5 points. California (184 points) holds the team lead, followed by Texas (165 points) in second and Arizona State (154 points) in third.

500-yard freestyle
The Wolfpack distance duo of Ross Dant and Will Gallant moved up from their prelims seeds, finishing in seventh (Dant) and 12th places (Gallant). Swimming in lane 1, Gallant finished fourth in the Consolation Final (4:13.98), while Dant posted a time of 4:12.59 from lane eight in the Championship Final to secure his fourth-straight All-American honor in the event. James Plage took 22nd place with his time of 4:15.15 in prelims.
200-yard individual medley
After not scoring any points in the event last season, the NC State duo of Arsenio Bustos and Giovanni Izzo contributed 18 total points to the Pack's team score. Bustos, not qualifying for the National Championship meet last season, posted a lifetime best and the third-fastest time in prelims (1:40.24). The sophomore garnered All-American honors with his sixth place finish in the night's Final (1:40.63). Izzo dropped time from his prelims swim, blasting a third-place finish in the Consolation Final (1:41.65) to take 12th place overall.
50-yard freestyle
The Wolfpack sprint crew of Nyls Korstanje, Noah Henderson, and David Curtiss all advanced to the Consolation Final with their prelims performances. Korstanje and Henderson went 1-2 in the evening's Consolation Final to take ninth and tenth with times of 18.74 (Korstanje) and 18.89 (Henderson), respectively. Also swimming in the heat, Curtiss posted a time 19.10 seconds to take 14th overall.Â
Three other NC State sprinters competed in the morning with Aiden Hayes (19.25) and Drew Salls (19.26) finishing one one-hundredth apart to claim the 25th and 26th places. Luke Miller dropped almost .3 of a second from his previous lifetime best to finish 30th overall (19.31).
1-meter springboard
Competing in the first NCAA Championships of his career, freshman Renato Calderaro scored 293.05 points on the one-meter springboard to finish in 46th place. The native of Italy will resume action Friday afternoon on the three-meter springboard.
200-yard freestyle relay
The Wolfpack sprinters were back in action in the 200-yard freestyle relay to give NC State its third All-American relay finish of the NCAA Championships. The crew of Henderson, Korstanje, Miller, and Curtiss clocked in at 1:14.44 to set a new ACC Record, also marking the fastest time in school history. Henderson led off going 18.88, Korstanie split 18.30, Miller posted a time of 18.59 on the third leg, and Curtiss brought the squad home in 18.67 seconds. With the swim setting the conference record in the event, the NC State men now hold the fastest time in conference history in all five relays.
The Pack will return to action on Friday for another day of competition in Minneapolis. Prelims are set for a 10 a.m. CST/11 a.m. EST start, with finals beginning at 6 p.m. CST/7 p.m. EST. Both session will be broadcast live on ESPN+.Â
