TULSA, OK NC State secured three All-Americans and will still compete for a top-10 finish on Saturday at the NCAA championships.
Â
Trent Hidlay, a four-time All-American, was joined by sophomore Ed Scott and redshirt sophomore Kai Orine as the latest members of the wrestling program to earn All-American honors.
Â
All three will close out the NCAA tournament on Saturday.
Â
Hidlay fell short of his bid to return to the finals. The Lewiston, PA native lost to Penn State's Aaron Brooks Friday night, 6-3. It was a rematch of their contest in the finals in 2021.
Â
Hidlay will face Marcus Coleman of Iowa State on Saturday. Scott ended Friday night on a high note, all the while getting a bit of revenge. Tied at nine, Scott earned a pin fall in the final seconds over Virginia Tech's Bryce Andonian.Â
Â
Andonian defeated Scott in the regular season and at the ACC tournament earlier this month. Scott was down 8-5 in the second period before going on a run to tie it up late in the third period.
Â
Scott will face Josh Humphreys of Lehigh on Saturday.
Â
Orine started the bloodround with a 7-1 win over Kyle Biscoglia of Northern Iowa to start the consolation round four. Orine's night ended with a 5-4 loss to Aaron Nagao of Minnesota.
Â
True freshman Jackson Arrington fell short of achieving All-American status, losing a close one to Brock Mauller of Missouri, 4-3. Arrington ends his rookie season with an overall record of 23-9.
Â
Jarrett Trombley started the morning off with a 2-1 win over Noah Surtin of Missouri.Â
Â
Arrington, Scott, Isaac Trumble and Owen Trephan all followed Trombley's lead in the consolation round with wins. Arrington got a two-point takedown in overtime for the win. The freshman wasn't done, beating Victor Voinovich, 5-1, in round three to advance.
Â
Scott picked up a fall over Peter Pappas to keep his podium hopes alive. Trumble trailed Jacob Koser 6-0 in the opening period but rallied back to tie the match at eight in the third. That forced overtime and Trumble secured a takedown in the extra session for the win.
Â
Ryan Jack saw his season come to an end with a 18-6 loss to Malyke Hines to start the consolation round. He finished his season at 21-5. Trombley, Trumble and Trephan would all be eliminated in the third round of consolation play.
