Berkoff Claims Fifth Place Finish; Arens, Noble Named Honorable Mention All-Americans

KNOXVILLE, TENN. — The Wolfpack women posted several impressive performances on the second day of the 2023 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, highlighted by Katharine Berkoff's fifth place finish in the 50-yard freestyle.
With NC State's best events to be contested in the remaining two days of competition, the team currently sits in 11th place with 66 points.

500-yard freestyle:
Both moving up in the overall rankings from their entry times, Emma Hastings and Yara Hierath started off the morning for the Wolfpack by posting swims just off of their lifetime best times. Hastings, a freshman, jumped from 42nd place to finish 36th overall with a time of 4:42.84. Hierath moved from her No. 55 seed to finish the event in 41st place (4:44.32).Â
200-yard individual medley:
Junior Abby Arens moved up from her 15th seed in the Consolation Final to take 12th overall with her time of 1:54.99, just off of her personal best time (1:54.93).Â
Swimming on her 19th birthday, Kennedy Noble posted a personal best time during prelims (1:55.48) to secure the last spot in the consolation final where she finished 14th overall (1:55.96). The prelims time moved the freshman to No. 4 all-time in program history. Grace Sheble finished 25th overall with her prelims time of 1:56.93.
50-yard freestyle:
Marking her 21st All-American honor, Katharine Berkoff finished in fifth place in the 50-yard freestyle. Her time of 22.54 marked a new best time by .01 of a second and keeps her as the second-fastest performer in program history.Â
Graduate student Kylee Alons went 22.01 in prelims, missing the last spot of the Consolation Final by three one-hundredths of a second. Also swimming in prelims, Abbey Webb finished 50th (22.64) and Heather MacCausland ended in 58th (22.86).Â
1-meter springboard:
Helene Synnott posted 238.10 points to finish in 40th place at her first NCAA Championships.
200-yard freestyle relay:
Due to an early takeoff, the women's 200-yard freestyle relay was disqualified.
The Pack will be back in action tomorrow morning with swims in the 400-yard IM, 100-yard fly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, and the 400-yard medley relay.
