NC State starts NCAA title hunt on Thursday

TULSA, OK Nine NC State wrestlers will chase their dreams of becoming a national champion starting Thursday at the BOK Center in Tulsa, OK.

The 2023 NCAA wrestling championships kick off Thursday morning at 11 AM. The NCAA championships will appear on the ESPN networks Thursday-Saturday.

The Wolfpack, the No. 3 ranked team in the final NWCA Coaches poll, will compete for a team title as well.

"For both athletes and coaches this is probably one of the toughest tournaments you can compete in," Wolfpack head coach Pat Popolizio said during Wednesday's press conference. "It's an emotional roller coaster. When it's all said and done, I think it's all done on the front end. You've prepared your guys and put them in position to accomplish their goals. If they fall short, hopefully they'll have time to come back and learn from the mistake that they made."

Last season NC State finished 10th overall, with a score of 49.0. It was the school's eighth straight top-20 finish.

Redshirt junior Hayden Hidlay brings the most experience to Tulsa, making his third trip to the NCAA championships. He finished fifth last season in Detroit.

Last time out: NC State won its fifth consecutive ACC title on March 5, with a team score of 101.5 points.
