Pack Secure Second, Twelfth Place Relay Finishes on Night One of NCAAs

KNOXVILLE, TENN. — Eight of NC State's women kicked off the Pack's first session of competition at the 2023 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships Wednesday night with two relay performances.Â
In the first event of the four-day meet, the Wolfpack set a new program record in the 200-yard medley relay, besting the previous record by half of a second. Finishing as All Americans with their second place finish, Katharine Berkoff, Heather MacCausland, Kylee Alons, and Abby Arens posted a time of 1:32.42. Berkoff led off the squad going 22.88, while MacCausland split 25.69 on the breaststroke leg for the fifth-fastest 50-yard breaststroke split in history. Alons swam the butterfly leg (22.59), and Arens brought the team home, going 21.26 on the freestyle leg.
Later in the session, Abbey Webb (1:43.88), Annabel Crush (1:44.84), Sarah Watson (1:45.80), and Katherine Helms (1:46.33) represented the Pack in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Swimming in the second of three heats, their time of 7:00.85 put the team in 12th place overall for Honorable Mention All-American status, tying the event's highest finish in program history.
The Wolfpack women will be back in action Thursday morning for day two's prelims session. The Pack will compete in the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM, 50-yard freestyle, 1-meter diving, and the 200-yard freestyle relay with the morning session is set for a 10 a.m. start and finals beginning at 6 p.m. Each session will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
