No. 5 NC State wrestling closes regular season at rival UNC

RALEIGH, NC -- The fifth-ranked NC State wrestling squad will close out the regular season with an ACC clash vs. rival UNC on Friday. The showdown between the Wolfpack (13-1, 3-1) and Tar Heels (6-8, 2-2) will air on the ACC Network and begin at 7 p.m.

NC State is currently tied in the ACC standings with Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech.Â

A Wolfpack win will give Pat Popolizio's squad the ACC Co-Regular Season Dual Meet title for the 2022-23 season if Duke beats the Panthers on Saturday.

Series history: UNC leads the all-time series 51-50-1 with NC State. The Wolfpack has won nine in a row over the Tar Heels.Â

Match ups: One match to keep an eye on will be in the 157 class. It'll be a top-10 showdown between No. 7 Ed Scott (15-5) of NC State and No. 2 Austin O'Connor (15-0). Another top-10 showdown will be in the 141 class between No. 6 Ryan Jack and No. 9 Lachlan McNeil.Â

Last time out: Pittsburgh rolled into Reynolds Coliseum undefeated, and like so many teams over the last four seasons, they left with a loss. No. 6 NC State knocked off the No.17 Panthers, 23-9 to improve to 3-1 in the ACC.
