RALEIGH Records are meant to be broken and Katelyn Tuohy has no problem handling her end of that deal.
For the second time this indoor season, Tuohy, NC State's sophomore phenom, has taken down another NCAA record.
On Saturday at the Millrose Games in New York, Tuohy smashed the 3000k mark, finishing in 8:35.20.
The previous mark - 8:41.60 - was set in 2018 by Karissa Schweizer of Missouri. Tuohy was the top collegiate finisher on Saturday, coming in third, one spot ahead of former teammate Elly Henes.
Last month at the Dr. Sanders Invitational, Tuohy broke the NCAA indoor record for the mile, finishing in 4:24.26. In December, she ran the 5000m in 15:15.92 at the Boston University Sharon Colyear Danville Season Opener. That mark is currently No. 1 in the nation. Tuohy now holds the top three marks nationally in the 5000m, the mile and now the 3000m.
In just two seasons, Tuohy already has two NCAA titles (outdoor 5000m, cross country) and is a six-time All-American.
