Payton Wilson Recognized as Finalist for Butkus Award

RALEIGH, N.C. - Wolfpack linebacker Payton Wilson has been named one of five finalists for the 2023 Dick Butkus Award, given to the nation's top linebacker. The NC State graduate is the first player in school history to make the finalist list for the prestigious award.

Wilson, who will be honored in Senior Day ceremonies before Saturday's game versus UNC, leads all Butkus finalists in tackles (123) and tackles for loss (16) and is tied among the five in the lead for interceptions and pass breakups.

Earlier this month, the Hillsborough native was named a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and he is on the Bednarik semifinalist list as well.

The 2023 Butkus Award winners will be honored at an event on Jan. 27, 2024, at the Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa in Rancho Mirage, Calif. The event will memorialize namesake Dick Butkus and feature numerous noted NFL Alumni. Ticket and sponsorship information is available by contacting the Butkus Foundation.
