PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – True freshman Kevin "KC" Concepcion has been announced as one of 14 semifinalists for the sixth annual Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award as announced by the Maxwell Football Club Wednesday morning.
Concepcion is just one of three wide receivers to make the semifinal list and one of three freshmen from the ACC.
With six touchdown receptions through his first eight games, Concepcion, who joined the team in January, already has more TD receptions than any true freshman in school history and is tied for the team lead.
The true freshman ranks third of all true freshmen with 5.2 receptions per game. He leads the team in receiving with 42 catches for 493 yards and is second in the ACC and 24th in the FBS in touchdown receptions.
Concepcion is the first true freshman in school history ever to post more than one 100-yard game in a season -and he has two in just eight games.
61% (301 yards) has come after the catch (or YAC). His 72-yard touchdown reception in the win over Clemson - NC State's longest of the year - included 54 yards after he caught the ball. The two-time ACC Rookie of the Week earned PFF's highest wide receiver grade for week six versus Marshall, and the Charlotte, N.C. native has already been named a midseason true freshman All-American by On3.
Presented to the most outstanding freshman player in college football, the award is named after Shaun Alexander since 2018; this award recognizes the exceptional performance and impact made by these players on their respective teams throughout the season. The winning formula evaluates players based on Talent, Character, Ambassador, and Legend.
Finalists for the annual Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year award will be November 29, 2023, and the award winner will be announced on December 27, 2023. The formal presentation of this award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards in March of 2024.
