DALLAS, Texas – NC State's Joe Shimko has been named one of 20 semifinalists for the seventh annual Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year, as announced by the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Selection Committee on Wednesday afternoon.
His philanthropic efforts in both the Raleigh area and his hometown of Belmar, N.J., have seen Shimko donate an impressive $400,000 to charity and generously donated more than $50,000 to GiGi's Playhouse over the past two summers.
With the most game experience played on the team, Shimko has been the Wolfpack's long snapper in 55 career games. In 540 career snaps, he has never had a bad one.
This is not the first award to recognize Shimko for his impact on and off the field, as he was named to the preseason watch list for the Weurffel Trophy, the Patrick Mannelly Award, and the All-State Good Works Team.
Compiled by a subset of the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Selection Committee, Moore and the 19 additional semifinalists have all demonstrated a record of leadership by exhibiting exceptional courage, integrity, and sportsmanship both on and off the field.
Three finalists will be named for the award on Wednesday, Dec. 13. The winner will be announced at the award ceremony in Frisco, Texas, on Feb. 15, 2024.
