Poole, Hansson Named Recipients of Chi Alpha Omega Postgraduate Scholarship

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – NC State national champion swimmers Sophie Hansson and Julia Poole have been selected as recipients of the National College Athlete Honor Society's Nick Mourouzis Postgraduate Scholarship for the 2021-22 academic year.
It marks the first time that the recipients of the scholarship, awarded by Chi Alpha Sigma, have been teammates. Both Poole and Hansson were also ACC Postgraduate Scholarship recipients this past year.
Hansson, a native of Helsingborg, Sweden, just wrapped up a four-year career for the Wolfpack during which she won a program record-tying four NCAA titles. Her national championship victories were highlighted by a sweep of the breaststroke events in 2021. In total, she earned 22 All-America honors and claimed 11 ACC event titles during her collegiate career. An Olympic qualifier for both the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Games, Hansson earned a degree in business management in May. She was a four-time Academic All-ACC Team and CSCAA Scholar All-America Team member and was also recognized as a CoSIDA Academic All-American each of the last two years.
A native of Cary, N.C., Poole finished five seasons at NC State with nine All-America honors and a 2021 national title to her name. She was a member of the 400-yard medley relay team that won the 2021 crown in NCAA and US Open-record time. Poole also won the 2019 ACC title in the 200-yard individual medley. During her career, she was a five-time Academic All-ACC honoree and a four-time CSCAA Scholar All-American.
Poole and Hansson were chosen from a field of other nominated Chi Alpha Sigma inductees. Both women were inducted into the Honor Society in the spring of 2021. In addition to being the first recipients to hail from the same team and institution, they are also the first to come from the same sport. They are the third and fourth recipients from the Atlantic Coat Conference.
