Alcorn comes to the Pack from Liberty
RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State men's golf head coach Press McPhaul announced Tuesday that Jeremy Alcorn has joined the program as an assistant coach.
"Jeremy Alcorn is a quality coach," McPhaul said. "He's been a part of building and sustaining success. His experience as an elite student-athlete at Baylor, coupled with his work at Texas Tech, Coastal Carolina and Liberty help him make an ideal fit for us. We are grateful to have him, Ashleigh and Asher join us at NC State."
Alcorn comes to NC State from Liberty where he served as assistant coach from 2019-22. He also has previous coaching experience at Coastal Carolina and Texas Tech.
The All-America golfer from Baylor served as assistant men's golf coach at Coastal Carolina during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons, while working as an assistant coach at Texas Tech from 2014-15 to 2016-17.
Alcorn helped lead Liberty to back-to-back NCAA Championship appearances while at Liberty in 2021 and 2022. In his three years with the Flames, Liberty had 11 ASUN All-Conference team selections and six PING All-Region selections. Kieran Vincent was named a Golfweek All-American in 2021.
Alcorn's golfers also got it done in the classroom. Austin Duncan was the ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year and CoSIDA All-American in 2022. Ervin Chang was the ASUN Male Student-Athlete of the Year and ASUN Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2021. In the shortened 2019-20 season that saw the season canceled midway through the spring slate, Liberty had six student-athletes make the Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-Academic Scholars Team.
Alcorn helped Coastal Carolina to a historic year in 2017-18. The Chanticleers cruised to the 2018 Sun Belt Championship and advanced to the NCAA Kissimmee Regional, the Chanticleers' first trip to postseason competition since 2011.
Coastal Carolina's Morgan Deneen won the Sun Belt individual title, was voted the Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year and named All-Sun Best first team. Luis Ruiz (second team) and Thadd Obecny II (third team) also earned all-conference honors.
During the 2017-18 season, Coastal Carolina's scoring average was 289.806 (third best in school history), while the team's 3.1221 scoring average on par-3 holes set a new program record. Also, Coastal Carolina's 36 rounds of par or better ranked second on the CCU single-season list, a 4.1935 scoring averaging on par-4 holes ranked third, the 523 birdies was fourth best and the 4.8938 scoring average on par-5 holes ranked 11th best in school history.
In 2018-19, the Chanticleers ended the regular season ranked No. 60 in the final Golfstat national rankings, narrowly missing regional play. Junior Zack Taylor joined the team off the PGM program and qualified for NCAA Regionals individually during his first year of college golf.
Prior to joining the staff at Coastal Carolina, Alcorn helped Texas Tech to three-straight NCAA Regional appearances (2015, 2016 and 2017). The Red Raiders reached the NCAA Championship in 2015 after placing second in the NCAA Lubbock Regional that season.
In 2017, the Red Raiders produced three PING All-Central Region honorees and had eight players named Big 12 All-Academic team. During Alcorn's three years in Lubbock, not only did Texas Tech earn three NCAA postseason berths, but the team finished third, second and fourth, respectively, at the Big 12 Men's Golf Championship.
Before beginning his coaching career, Alcorn played on the Adams Golf Pro Tour. He was a medalist in his first professional tournament on the Adams Tour, winning the 2009 Jamie Hilton Hillcrest Children's Golf Classic at Twin Rivers Golf Club (Waco, Texas). He won the tournament on the first playoff hole to finish with a winning score of 9-under par 279 (70-70-68-71). Alcorn also worked as a caddie on the PGA Tour, most notably for Brice Garnett.
A four-year letterwinner at Baylor from 2003-07, Alcorn won five tournaments, including three during his sophomore season (2004-05), tying a school record for individual victories in a season, while being named the Big 12 Golfer of the Month twice.
Alcorn's 71.76 scoring average led the Bears that season and ranked third in the Big 12 Conference, helping him earn first All-Big 12 team honors and an honorable-mention PING All-America selection.
He finished his collegiate career with 11 top-5 finishes (third best on Baylor's all-time list), 17 top-10 finishes (fourth best) and 133 career rounds played (fourth best).
Alcorn received his B.S. in Education from Baylor in 2008. He and his wife, Ashleigh, have a daughter, Asher.
