RALEIGH – NC State swimming standouts Sophie Hansson and Eric Knowles were named to the 2022 CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large Team, as announced by the organization this week.
The Wolfpack swimmers were part of a total of 11 women and 13 men who were named First Team honorees from District 3, which includes NCAA Division I schools from North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. It marks the fifth year in a row that multiple members of the squad have been named to the Academic All-District Team.
Hansson just completed her degree in business management, and she makes the list for the second year in a row after having been named a CoSIDA Acaedmic All-American in 2021. She has also been honored on the Academic All-ACC Team and the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team every season at NC State. A native of Helsingborg, Sweden, Hansson won a program-record four NCAA titles during her Wolfpack career which included sweeping the breaststroke wins in 2021. She was a 22-time All-American and an 11-time ACC champion at NC State.
Knowles, who just earned his degree in materials science and engineering with a perfect 4.0 GPA, has been honored as a CoSIDA Academic All-American three seasons in a row. He adds to his list of academic awards, as he has also been recognized as a member of the Academic All-ACC Team and a CSCAA Scholar All-American each season of his five-year career. The Dayton, Ohio, native won the Elite 90 Award for Men's Swimming and Diving for having the top GPA out of any competitor at the NCAA Championships, and he was also honored as a 2022 ACC Postgraduate Scholarship. A six-time All-American and three-time ACC champion in the pool, Knowles competed in three individual events at this year's national meet.
With the recognition, Hansson and Knowles are now eligible for consideration for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, with those teams set to be announced in mid-June.
