Wolfpack Swimmers Wrap Up Competition at FINA Worlds

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA -- Over the final two days of competition at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, NC State's seven swimmers wrapped up action at the World Championship meet. As the United States' Head Coach for the meet, Wolfpack Head Coach Braden Holloway led the Americans to finish the meet with the highest medal count of any country.
Led by Holloway, Team USA brought home 17 gold, 13 silver, and 6 bronze medals. The total of 36 medals won ties the previous record for the most medals won, and also ties the record of most gold medals won by the United States at the meet. The federation with the next highest medal count was Australia, finishing with 26 total medals.

The NC State men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be back in action following the mark of the new year. Several Wolfpack divers will compete at the Georgia Diving Invitational Jan. 2-5, while both the swimmers and divers will resume dual meet action in Durham against the Duke Blue Devils on Jan. 14th.

DAY 5 AND DAY 6 HIGHLIGHTS:
- Andrea Podmanikova made it to semifinals of the 50-meter breaststroke, finishing in 15th place (30.21).
- Kacper Stokowski finished the 200-meter backstroke in 17th place with his time of 1:53.88.
- Nyls Korstanje finished 14th in the semifinal of the 100-meter butterfly (50.59).
- David Curtiss swam his first individual race of the meet, taking 24th in the 50-meter freestyle (21.40).
- Colombian Sirena Rowe competed in her last individual race of the meet, finishing 27th in the 50-meter freestyle (25.19).
- Andreas Vazaios, a 2019 graduate of NC State, finished 16th in the 400-meter individual medley (4:11.39), his third individual medley event of the week.
- Sophie Hansson, Korstanje, and Podmanikova each represented their respective countries in the 4x100 medley relay, the highest place finish of the group being Hansson's fifth-place finishing team.
- Korstanje and Podmanikova also contributed efforts to represent their countries in the 4x50-medley relay, finishing eighth and eleventh, respectively.
