Moore Named Co-Linebacker of the Week, Morris Named Co-Rooke of the Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Linebacker Isaiah Moore and true freshman quarterback MJ Morris both earned ACC weekly honors, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Moore was named the ACC's Co-Linebacker of the Week, while Morris was tabbed the ACC's Co-Rookie of the Week for the second straight week.
Moore, a graduate student from Chester, Virginia, led the Wolfpack with 10 total tackles in NC State's 30-21 victory over No. 20 Wake Forest. Moore recorded 2.5 tackles for loss and recorded a 9-yard sack in the ACC victory. Five of his stops were for 0 or negative yards.
Late in the first quarter with the Pack leading 3-0, Wake Forest had a first-and-goal opportunity at the 1-yard line. Moore stuffed the Demon Deacons for a 3-yard tackle-for-loss on first down, a 4-yard tackle-for-loss on second down and then a 9-yard sack on third down to force a field goal attempt (that was missed).
Wake Forest entered Saturday's matchup averaging 38.9 points per game before Moore and the Wolfpack defense held the Demon Deacons to just 21 points. Moore's outstanding performance came on an emotional night as it was just two days after the death of his grandmother and his final home night game at Carter-Finley Stadium.
Morris, a true freshman from Carrollton, Georgia, led the Wolfpack to a rivalry game victory in his first-career start. Morris completed 18-of-28 passes (.642) for 210 yards and three touchdown passes, becoming the first NC State true freshman quarterback to toss three touchdowns in back-to-back games since Philip Rivers in 2000.
Morris, who was NC State's first true freshman to start at quarterback since Rivers in 2000, helped lead the Wolfpack offense to a zero-turnover performance while controlling time of possession. He also rushed for 43 yards, breaking off three explosive rushes (10+ yards) on the evening.
The true freshman joined Rivers and Jacoby Brissett as the only quarterbacks to toss three touchdowns in their first start (since 2000). Morris and Rivers are the only two to throw for three scores with no interceptions in their first-career starts since 2000.
