GREENSBORO, N.C. – Former Wolfpack and NFL standout defensive back David Amerson will be honored as NC State's 2022 ACC Legend.
Amerson and the rest of this year's class will be celebrated during the ACC Football Honors program presented by the Charlotte Sports Foundation at the Charlotte Convention Center's Richardson Ballroom on the evening of Friday, Dec. 2, and during the on-field pregame festivities at the 18th annual Subway ACC Football Championship Game, set for 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, at Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium.
After becoming just one of five true freshmen to start a game for the Pack in 2010, Amerson had a breakout campaign in 2011 as a true sophomore, picking off a nation-best 13 passes to set what was then the ACC single-season mark in the process. Amerson was named a First Team All-American and received the Jack Tatum Trophy as the nation's top defensive back.
Amerson picked off a pair of passes four times during the 2011 season, snagging two picks against Liberty, Central Michigan, Virginia and Louisville, all of which were Wolfpack victories. He was named the Jim Thorpe Defensive Back of the Week once and the ACC Defensive Back of the Week twice during his historic 2011 campaign.
After picking off five more passes as a junior in 2012, Amerson entered the NFL Draft and was selected in the second round by Washington (51st overall). Amerson became NC State's highest-selected defensive back since Dewayne Washington in 1994.
Amerson played six NFL seasons, highlighted by a 2015 season with the Raiders in which he was named the NFL's most improved player by Pro Football Focus. He ranked second in the NFL that season with 25 passes defended.
In total, he appeared in 74 career games with 61 starts, making 272 career tackles, picking off nine passes and recording 65 passes defended. He returned two of those interceptions for touchdowns, including one during his rookie season in Washington.
