RALEIGH – NC State sophomore guard Terquavion Smith was named to the John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top 50 Watch List on Tuesday afternoon.
The list was chosen by a preseason poll of national college basketball experts, the list is comprised of 50 student-athletes who are the early front-runners for the most prestigious honors in college basketball, the Wooden Award All American Team and Most Outstanding Player Award.
Smith was named a Preseason All-ACC First Team selection in October. Last season, Smith was an All-ACC Rookie Team member and honorable mention All-ACC team selection last season as a freshman. He was named ACC Freshman of the Week four times.
The Greenville, N.C., native started 25 of 32 games, including all 20 ACC games, and averaged 16.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.3 steals per game. He shot 39.8 percent from the field, including 36.9 percent from three-point range. His 16.3 scoring average was eighth-highest in the ACC and second amongst the league's freshman.
Smith made 96 three-pointers which were the most in program history by a freshman and third-most in a single-season in program history. His 96 three-pointers are fourth-most by a freshman in ACC history and his 3.0 three-pointers per game average led the ACC and was the first freshman to lead the ACC in three-pointers made since Duke's J.J. Redick in the 2002-03 season.
The Wooden Award All American Team will be announced the week of the "Elite Eight" round of the NCAA Tournament. The winner of the 2023 John R. Wooden Award will be presented in Los Angeles in April.
