RALEIGH – Wolfpack women's basketball will head into its new campaign ranked in the national top 10 for the third year in a row after the squad was tabbed the nation's 10th-ranked team in the first Associated Press (AP) poll of the 2022-23 season.
NC State has been ranked in the AP Top 10 every poll since Dec. 9, 2019 and in the AP Top 25 since Feb. 5, 2018. The Pack is coming off a program record-trying No. 3 finish in the AP Poll last season, its second such final national ranking in a row and its fourth-straight time appearing in the Top 10 at the conclusion of a year.
The Wolfpack heads into 2022-23 as the reigning ACC champion after winning the tournament crown for the third season in a row and the regular season for the first time since 1984-85. NC State appeared in its second-ever NCAA Tournament Elite Eight in 2022, advancing to the regional final for the first time since 1997-98.
The Pack returns eight players from the 2021-22 roster, highlighted by three-year starter and 2021 AP All-American Jakia Brown-Turner. She and ACC Sixth Player of the Year Diamond Johnson were two of the team's top three scorers from last season, and Jada Boyd and Camille Hobby are also back with the squad for their fourth seasons after each averaging over five points per game in 2021-22.
NC State also added a star-studded group of transfers who will make an immediate impact. That group is made up of graduate River Baldwin and Mimi Collins and sophomore Saniya Rivers, all three of whom were McDonald's All-Americans in their respective classes.
The Wolfpack will host UNC Pembroke in an exhibition game on Thursday, Nov. 3 before officially opening its season at home on Monday, Nov. 7 against Quinnipiac.
