Pack downed then-No. 9 Clemson 27-21
RALEIGH, N.C. – After a thrilling 27-21 OT win over then-No. 9 Clemson, NC State has been named the Cheez-It Bowl National Team of the Week, as selected by the Football Writers Association of America.
Â
This marks the second time NC state has earned the award from the FWAA, the first was for a 17-16 upset of then-No. 3 Florida State in 2012.
Â
The Pack won its first game over a top-10 foe since 2012, and defeated Clemson for the first time since 2011.
Â
From the release:
QB Devin Leary was outstanding, completing 32 of 44 passes for 238 yards with four touchdowns without an interception. He mixed his passes to 10 different receivers and capped the win with a 22-yard touchdown pass to Devin Carter, who made a fine catch in the back of the end zone on the Wolfpack's second overtime possession.
Leary's four scoring passes went to three different receivers and NC State became the first team to score an offensive touchdown against Clemson this season when Leary hit Emeka Emezie on a nine-yard scoring play to end the first quarter. Emezie finished with a career-high 14 passes for 116 yards and the touchdown.
The Wolfpack defense did its part holding Clemson to eight rushing yards and just 87 total yards in the first half.
