Raleigh, N.C. – Week 1 of the NFL season took place this past weekend, and 10 former Pack players lined up as starters and 17 saw action overall. Here are some of the highlights.
Show Him the Money
Before all the NFL action started, former Pack RB Nyheim Hines inked a new contract with the Indianapolis Colts. Entering his fourth NFL season, Hines reupped with the club that drafted him for another three years and $18.6 million. According to ESPN's Field Yates, Hines is the highest paid non-lead back in the NFL now.
Last season, Hines was graded by PFF as the best pass-catching running back, as his 63 receptions led the Colts. In the season opening loss to the Seahawks, Hines has six receptions for 48 yards and rushed nine times for another 34 yards.
Las Vegas Welcomes Fans
The Raiders welcomed fans to Allegiant Stadium for the first time Monday night, and the home town team put in a show with a 33-27 OT win against the Baltimore Ravens.
Third-year punt, A.J. Cole put on a show. He averaged 52.7 yards on his six punts, with a long of 67. He also pinned a pair inside the 20-yard line.
In the Trenches
Eight former Wolfpack defensive linemen are currently on NFL rosters, with seven having been drafted over the last four years. Multiple performances stood out in Week 1, and that was despite Bradley Chubb, a 2020 Pro Bowl selection, missing action with an injury.
B.J. Hill was traded from the N.Y. Giants to the Cincinnati Bengals after the preseason, and the change of scenery seems to fit him well as he had a pair of sacks in the Bengals OT win over Minnesota. From the same draft class, Kentavius Street also won a starting spot, and responded with his first career sack in San Francisco's road win at Detroit. Larrell Murchison earned his first career start in his second season with the Tennessee Titans.
Mr. Consistent
Russell Wilson had one of the top QB performances, throwing for 254 yards and four touchdowns in the Seahawks win in Indianapolis. According to the NFL, Wilson now has 11 career 4+ TD games with no interceptions, the most by a player in his first 10 seasons.
