NC State and The Brandr Group Launch Group Licensing for Student-Athletes

"The landscape of college athletics has shifted, and this partnership with The Brandr Group positions NC State to further enhance and elevate our brand for our talented student-athletes and the broader Wolfpack community," said Boo Corrigan, Athletics Director at NC State. "By working with The Brandr Group, our student-athletes will be able to benefit financially from their NIL through co-branded items, such as jersey sales and trading cards. Furthermore, this opens a new door for our fan base, enabling them to purchase merchandise that represents their favorite players. We're grateful for the continued support from our University to make impactful partnerships like this possible."
The partnership with The Brandr Group allows for the collective use of student-athletes' NIL in licensing and marketing programs, co-branded with the NC State logos and marks. Current Wolfpack student-athletes will be able to voluntarily join a group licensing program with three-or-more individuals from the same team or six-or-more student-athletes from any combination of teams. TBG will facilitate group licensing opportunities on behalf of the student-athletes, and the program does not limit individual NIL rights.
"This is an exciting new chapter for our company, enabling us to partner closely with NC State athletics to expand opportunities for Wolfpack student-athletes," said Wesley Haynes, TBG CEO. "Through this group licensing agreement, they'll be able to fully realize all the benefits associated with Name, Image and Likeness available to them through NC State's vast portfolio. The Wolfpack have long been one of the most respected, revered programs in the country, and we're thrilled to be collaborating with them on this new journey for their student-athletes and their fans."
TBG, a brand management, marketing and licensing agency, will manage and administer the program as well as develop licensing opportunities on behalf of the student-athletes. With decades of collective management experience for some of the world's largest brands, TBG also manages the group rights program for the NFL, NBA and MLB players' associations in the college space.
Products that combine team logos and player names and numbers have accounted for a large portion of licensed sports merchandise sales at the professional level for decades, and this program opens the door for the same opportunities for student-athletes at the collegiate level. Fans can expect to be able to purchase official NC State merchandise, including team jerseys, with the name and number of their favorite Wolfpack players who have joined the respective group licensing program once TBG enters into agreements with applicable school trademark licensees.
