RALEIGH - The NC State men's tennis program is adding Alex Lawson to the staff as a volunteer assistant coach, as announced by head coach Kyle Spencer on Monday.
"We are excited to have someone of Alex's pedigree join our coaching staff," said Spencer. "To have someone who not only has been an All-American and played college tennis at the highest level but is also playing professional tennis at the highest level will be an invaluable asset to our athletes as well as our coaching staff."
Lawson joins the Wolfpack program after a stint on the pro tour. The Tempe, Ariz., native reached his highest ATP doubles ranking at 115 and has won seven doubles titles on the professional circuit. Currently, Lawson checks into the ATP doubles rankings at No. 121. He recently claimed the doubles crown at the ATP Challenger in Segovia, Spain, alongside partner Robert Galloway.
A 2016 graduate of Notre Dame, Lawson was a 2016 Doubles All-American and reached the semifinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship that same year. He qualified to the NCAA Doubles Championships in 2014, 2015 and 2016 and concluded his collegiate career with the 2016 ITA Midwest Most Improved Player honors.
"I'm really excited to be joining the Wolfpack," said Lawson. "Thanks so much to Kyle and Cris for bringing me on board. I can't wait to see what we can accomplish this year.
"This is one of the best coaching staffs in the country, so I'm really looking forward to seeing what I can learn from them as well as add my college tennis and pro experience."
