TOKYO – Swimming her second semifinal of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, NC State women's swimming and diving's Sophie Hansson placed 10th in the 200-meter breaststroke to conclude her slate of individual events at the Games.
Hansson clocked in at 2:24.28 in the night session after swimming a 2:23.82 personal best in the preliminary heats.
The performance comes after an already-electric set of races by Hansson throughout the early stages of this year's Olympics. After helping Sweden to a sixth-place finish in the 4x100-meter freestyle on the opening day of competition, the rising Wolfpack senior went on to place sixth in the 100-meter breaststroke. That race marked her first individual finals appearance at the Games, and she lowered her own Swedish record all the way to 1:05.66 in the prelims of that event.
Wolfpack alumnus Andreas Vazaios, who is appearing in his program-best third career Olympics, competed in the 200-meter individual medly on Wednesday morning. He posted a time of 1:58.84.
Thursday marks the prelims and semifinals for the men's 100-meter butterfly in which Nyls Korstanje and Noe Ponti are set to compete. The race will mark Ponti's second event of the meet after reaching the 200-meter butterfly semifinals earlier in the week, and it will be Korstanje's first individual action of the Olympics.
