TOKYO – NC State women's swimming captain Sophie Hansson officially opened the 2020 Olympic Games slate for the Pack on Saturday night. The rising senior swam the anchor leg as part of Sweden's sixth-place 4x100-meter freestyle relay squad.
After competing in the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, Saturday's relay marked Hansson's first-ever finals appearance at the Olympics. The Swedish team touched in 3:34.69 from lane eight after being the last team to make it to the night session.
Hansson closed the relay with a 54.94 anchor swimming alongside Sarah Sjoestroem, Michelle Coleman and her sister Louise Hansson.
NC State's swimmers will prepare for a busy day of individual action on Sunday with representation in the preliminary heats of the women's 100-meter breaststroke and the men's 100-meter backstroke. Those heats will take place beginning at 6 a.m. EST Sunday morning, and the semifinals for any members of the Pack who advance will begin at 9:30 p.m. EST Sunday night.
