SAN JOSE, Calif. – After being drafted by the San Jose Earthquakes in the second round of the 2021 Major League Soccer SuperDraft in January, NC State midfielder George Asomani has officially signed a contract with the club. San Jose drafted him with the 39th overall pick.
"I wanted to take a minute to congratulate George, as he just signed a multi-year deal and has provisions to help get his green card and is registering for the last three credits he needs to graduate," said head coach George Kiefer. "As a coach, it's days like this that mean so much because this day has the ability to help generations of people in George's life when you factor in the degree! Congrats, George!"
Asomani spent the last two seasons on the NC State squad after transferring into the program prior to the start of the 2019 campaign. As a member of the Pack, he has played and started in 32 matches. A native of Accra, Ghana, Asomani was named to the 2020 ACC Preseason Watch List. He played in all 14 of the Wolfpack's 2020 matches and earned the starting nod in each. Asomani played 90+ minutes in 12 of those games.
In 2019, he played an instrumental role in helping the Pack to its third consecutive NCAA Championships appearance, something that had not been done at NC State since the mid-1980s. He played in all 18 games that season and earned the start in each one of those outings, finding the back of the net in NC State's ACC Tournament quarterfinal match at Pittsburgh.
