NC State baseball's Jonny Butler and Tyler McDonough were honored by ABCA/Rawlings and NCBWA with a pair of postseason awards, announced on Wednesday.
Butler earned Second Team All-America honors from the NCBWA in addition to ABCA/Rawlings First Team All-Region accolades. As a first team All-Region honoree, Butler is eligible for All-America consideration. Butler was one of the hottest hitters in the nation throughout the 2021 season, finishing the regular season with an ACC-best .406 batting average and 11 consecutive multi-hit games. He also batted .393 in conference action, which is the highest clip among all ACC players. Â
Â
Through the NCAA Super Regionals, Butler ranks third on the team with 13 home runs, nine of which have come since April 25. He started 49 games in this season in the outfield, as he missed four due to COVID-19 protocols, and leads the team with 22 multi-hit games and 15 multi-RBI outings.
Butler was a First Team All-ACC honoree earlier this season, and the All-America mention is his first award from a national publication.
Â
McDonough was named ABCA/Rawlings Second Team All-Region after an outstanding season where he proved to be one of the most consistent hitters in the ACC. He held a 53-game reached base streak until May 11, which dated back to the beginning of the 2020 season, and has reached safely in 57 of 59 games this year.
Â
In the regular season, McDonough ranked among the top 10 in the ACC in batting average (.341), doubles (15), home runs (13) and slugging percentage (.654). In his career he has spent a majority of his time in the outfield had has committed just one error at that position in 130 starts (131 games played).
McDonough was named Second Team All-ACC earlier this year, and this is the fourth national award he has received in his career. In 2019 he garnered Freshman All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball, Perfect Game and Baseball America.
Â
Butler and McDonough have been critical parts of NC State's postseason run, and will look to continue to contribute as the squad opens action at the 2021 College World Series in Omaha, Neb., this weekend. The Wolfpack is set to take on Stanford June 19 at 2 p.m. ET at TD Ameritrade Park.
