Wesley Mattice Selected to Lead NC State Diving Program

RALEIGH – NC State swimming and diving head coach Braden Holloway has rounded out his staff with the addition of Wesley Mattice as head diving coach.
"We're excited to welcome Wes, Ali and Hunter to the Wolfpack family," said Holloway. "During our search for a new leader on the boards, it was clear that Wes was the perfect fit for a new direction and vision for our diving program. Obtaining valuable time coaching in the club ranks as well as college, Wes conveys the same focus on values and standards that match our swimming program. His cornerstones of trust, communication and accountability will cultivate a healthy and competitive environment to help us achieve success."
Mattice comes to Raleigh following three seasons as head diving coach at George Washington. Prior to his time at GW, he trained the nation's most elite youth divers as part of the staff for USA Diving's Junior National Team.
"I am super excited to join the NC State Wolfpack," said Mattice. "I've had many exciting opportunities recently in the sport of swimming and diving, and all of them wouldn't have been what they were without the support of the teams and people around me. This next opportunity with the Wolfpack is one that is next level, with a team and support staff to match. I couldn't be more ready to level up in a united pursuit of excellence with NC State swimming and diving."
While at GW, Mattice was most notably named 2020 A-10 Men's Diving Coach of the Year. He helped coach Peter Nachtwey to Most Outstanding Diver awards in both 2018-19 and 2019-20. Mattice's divers also played key roles at the squad's conference meets, helping the men claim the team title in 2019 and the women earn their first-ever victory in 2020.
Mattice helped lead two men's divers to the NCAA Zone A Championships in 2019, with Nachtwey setting a new program record on platform at that meet. In his three years at GW, he coached the Colonial divers to two A-10 gold medals, two silvers, three bronzes and a total of 18 top-eight A-10 individual finishes.
During his time with USA Diving, Mattice served as head coach for the national team based out of the Kennedy Shriver Aquatic Center in Rockville, Md. He was part of the team's trip to the 2015 Pan American Junior Championships in Cuba, and he played a role in preparing America's best divers for other international competitions.
Mattice also previously spent time as facility director and coach of the Montgomery Dive Club and coach of the Whirlwind Dive Club in Connecticut.
Mattice completed his collegiate diving career at Southern Connecticut State. He competed at the U.S. Masters Diving Championships in 2007 before stepping into his full-time coaching career.
