Third time in 10 years that NC State has had multiple players earn All-ACC Honors
RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State men's golfers Benjamin Shipp and Maximilian Steinlechner were named to the 2021 All-ACC Men's Golf team as the conference office announced the annual awards on Monday morning.
It is the second All-ACC honor for Shipp and the first of Steinlechner's career.
It is just the third time in the last 10 seasons that NC State has had multiple players earn All-ACC honors (Albin Choi and Mitch Sutton in 2011 and Stephen Franken and Shipp in 2019).
Head Coach Press McPhaul has now helped the Pack garner multiple All-ACC honorees for the second time in three full seasons as head coach. (The 2019-20 season was canceled midway through the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic and no ACC awards were given).
Shipp has had a terrific senior season, winning two tournaments (Schenkel Invitational and Hootie Intercollegiate) to give him five for his career. His five collegiate wins are tied for the third-most in NC State history.
The Duluth Ga., native's current season stroke average of 70.00 would be the best in program history and his career stroke average of 71.23 is the third-best in program history.
In his last four tournaments, Shipp has shot a combined 48-under par. He has two wins, a second place finish (ACC Championship) and a tie for fifth place (Stitch Intercollegiate) during that span and has completed 12 straight rounds at par or better.
Steinlechner, in his first full season as a collegiate golfer, has had a fantastic sophomore season. The Innsbruck, Austria native is second on team to Shipp with a 70.75 scoring average and has five top-five performances in eight tournaments this season.
Steinlechner's 70.75 scoring average currently ranks as the sixth-best single season mark in program history.
After starting the season with two finishes in the upper-half of the field, Steinlechner went on a roll, finishing five consecutive tournaments in the top-five and all under-par.
He started by shooting four-under par to finished in a tie for second place at the Wake Forest Invite, he followed up with a fourth place finish at the General Hackler with a six-under performance. He finished second to Shipp at the Schenkel Invitational with a score of five-under par.
