NC State Falls to Virginia in Semifinal Matchup

ROME, GA. - The fourth-seeded NC State men's tennis team ended its 2021 ACC Championships in the semifinals, dropping its match to one-seed Virginia by a score of 4-0.
DOUBLES
Virginia claimed the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. No. 10 Carl Söderlund and William Woodall defeated 31st-ranked Tadas Babelis and Yannai Barkai, 6-1, for the first doubles victory of the day.
Play was back-and-forth on the remaining two courts, and the Cavaliers were able to clinch the point with Ryan Goetz and Chris Rodesch's 6-4 win over Robin Catry and Alexis Galarneau.
SINGLES
The Cavaliers took all six first sets in singles, and No. 99 Goetz was the first with a singles win with his 6-1, 6-1 win over No. 79 Rafa Izquierdo Luque.
Babelis came back in his second set, dropping just one game, to force a third.
On court six, William Woodall defeated Barkai 6-3, 6-1 to put Virginia one point away from the win.
It was No. 55 Iñake Mondtes De La Torres who sealed the victory for the Cavaliers, defeating Catry 6-4, 6-0.

"Tough day for our team today," said head coach Kyle Spencer. "We didn't execute at the level that we are accustomed to. This group has a lot to be proud of, and today just wasn't our day for whatever reason. We will regroup next week with good practices and get ready to make a big run in the NCAA Championship.
