RALEIGH – NC State women's basketball associate head coach Lindsay Edmonds has been named the head women's basketball coach at Rice University. Edmonds is the sixth women's basketball head coach in Rice history.
Edmonds has been a part of Wes Moore's staff for all of his eight seasons in Raleigh. In that time, she helped the Wolfpack achieve a 190-65 record (89-39 in ACC games), five NCAA Tournament appearances, three NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 berths and two ACC Tournament titles.
"Lindsay has been a big part of the steady climb of NC State women's basketball over the past eight years," said Moore. "As associate head coach, she has had a great impact in all phases of our program - from the X's and O's and recruiting to the academic and athletic excellence we've enjoyed here at NC State. While it's tough to see her go, I know she has worked hard and prepared well for the opportunity to be a head coach. Today, we're happy for Lindsay and her family, and we look forward to following her continued success."
A graduate of Appalachian State, Edmonds has played in instrumental role in some of the best seasons in NC State women's basketball's 47-year history. The Wolfpack is coming off of a 22-3 season during which she helped guide NC State to the 2021 ACC Tournament crown, a No. 1 seed for the NCAA Tournament, a Sweet 16 berth and a No. 3 final AP ranking.
In 2017-18, Edmonds helped NC State win 26 games and return to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2007. The 2018-19 team finished the year ranked ninth in the final USA Today Coaches Poll. That season, the team advanced to the Sweet 16 again, achieved the longest winning streak in program history (21 games) and recorded the best start to a season in program history (21-0). In 2019-20, Edmonds was part of an incredible 2019-20 campaign that was capped off with the 2020 ACC Tournament title, the first for the Pack since 1991.
NC State has put together six-straight 20+ win seasons, three-straight AP Top 10 finishes, three-straight NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 berths and the first back-to-back ACC Tournament crowns in program history with Edmonds on the staff.
In her previous role of recruiting coordinator and most recent role as associate head coach, Edmonds was key in discovering and developing some of the best players in NCAA women's basketball. She helped coach her Wolfpack players to 10 All-America citations, 20 ACC annual honors and three WNBA Draft picks since joining the staff ahead of the 2013-14 campaign.
Edmonds was also actively involved with the academic support for each player, as she was a part of a 100% graduation rate for student-athletes who stayed all four years at NC State.
