Hansson, Berkoff Rack Up Medals on Day Two of World Championships

ABU DHABI, UAE – NC State's swimmers collected a total of three medals on the second day of action at the FINA World Championships as Sophie Hansson and Katharine Berkoff both finished on the podium in individual events and Hansson added a relay title.
Hansson and Team Sweden kicked off Friday's finals session with a bang, tying the world record in the women's 4x50-meter medley relay with a winning time of 1:42.38. Hansson split 29.07 on the breaststroke leg on her way to helping Sweden to the top finish.

Hansson also competed in the final for the 50-meter breaststroke after earning her spot with a pair of solid races in Thursday's prelim and semifinal. After setting a new Swedish national record (29.57) in her first race of the World Championships, Hansson lowered that mark to 29.55 on her way to taking home bronze in the final.
Katharine Berkoff added a 100-meter backstroke bronze medal to her tally after taking home gold on the United States' 4x100-meter freestyle relay on Thursday. The NC State junior put together an incredible race on her way to touching third in 55.40. Her time was just .2 seconds off of the winning mark.
Kacper Stokowski represented the Pack and Poland in the men's 100-meter backstroke final where he placed fifth. He clocked in at 49.80 for his fastest time of the meet and a new personal best in the event.
Wolfpack captain Nyls Korstanje made an appearance in the 100-meter butterfly semifinal, where he finished 11th in 50.11 to wrap up action in the event. He'll race in the 50-meter butterfly later in the meet.
Alumnus Ryan Held swam the mixed 4x50-meter freestyle relay for the United States. He led off the relay with a 20.86 split as the squad finished just off the podium in 1:29.04.
The Wolfpack continues FINA World Championships action on Saturday. Prelims are set to begin at 12:30 a.m. EST, and the third finals session of the meet will begin at 9 a.m. EST with all races covered on NBC.
