Pack Falls to Richmond, 83-74

NC State shot just 62% from the foul line in the loss
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The NC State men's basketball team fell to Richmond, 83-74, Friday evening inside the Spectrum Center.
The Pack had a 34-18 advantage in free throw attempts but converted on just 61.8 percent of its free throws in the loss.
The Spiders shot 52.5 percent in the win, a season-high for an NC State opponent and had just 10 turnoveres which was a season-low for a Pack opponent.
Richmond had a 10-point advantage, 58-48, with 13:12 remaining, but NC State responded with a 14-5 run to cut the deficit to one, 63-62, with 8:30 to play.
The Spiders would stretch its advantage back to six, but NC State again cut it a one possession deficit on a Dereon Seabron put-back dunk with 3:05 to play.
Richmond had an answer for every NC State point in the final three minutes and pulled away at the free throw line in the final seconds to win.
Seabron led NC State with 21 points and 13 rebounds. It was the seventh double-double of the season for the Norfolk, Va., native.
Terquavion Smith scored 10 of his 18 points in the second half.
Cam Hayes added 16 points, hitting a career-best four three-pointers.
Jericole Hellems also reached double figures with 12 points.
The Pack got off to a hot start from downtown, hitting its first five three-pointers of the evening to jump out to a 23-15 lead just seven minutes into the ballgame. NC State did not hit another three-pointer the rest of the first half and Richmond quickly cut into the Pack's lead, eventually taking the lead with a 7-0 run to turn a 31-27 deficit into a 34-31 Spiders lead with 2:05 left in the first half.
The Pack would cut the deficit to one on multiple occasions the rest of the half, but Richmond would go into the locker room with a 39-35 halftime advantage.
The Spiders outscored NC State 30-12 in points in the paint in the opening 20 minutes and finished the game with a 46-30 advantage in points in the paint.
NC State closes the non-conference portion of its schedule on Tuesday when it hosts Wright State. Tipoff at PNC Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised on ACC Network Extra.
