RALEIGH - Mexico City native Vania Simont has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to join the NC State women's golf program, head coach Page Marsh announced on Friday.
Simont is the third Mexico native in as many years to join the Wolfpack, as she will arrive in Raleigh next fall with a stellar junior resume at the national and international levels.
"We are so excited to welcome Vania to our Pack family," said Marsh. "Vania has played on the world stage as an individual and as part of a team. She brings a great passion for the game and a relentless drive to win both as an individual and as a member of her team. Vany exhibits great sportsmanship, as she has a unique combination of being fiercely competitive while also gracious.
"She exhibits excellence not only as a golfer but also in the classroom; she is such a hard worker who has made sacrifices to be her best version of herself on and off the golf course. I look forward to supporting her transition here and seeing the legacy she adds as the latest member of our Pack family."

Simont is currently listed at No. 82 in the American Junior Golf Association's (AJGA) national rankings and holds a No. 788 ranking in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), as she is coming off a pair of recent runner-up finishes at the AJGA C.T. Pan Junior Championship and AJGA Greenwood Junior Championship.
She has been rated as one of the top junior golfers in her home country of Mexico, as she was rated the No. 2 golfer in the 2017-18 competition season and has been tabbed the top player the last three years. Highlights from her tournament play in Mexico include winning the Copa Notre in 2020 and finishing runner up in 2021, as well as finishing second in the 2019 and '20 Copa Yucatan while earning a fifth-place finish this past year.
Simont has represented her home country on the international stage, as she helped Team Mexico win the 2021 Girls Junior Americas Cup while she finished third individually with a seven-under par 206. Additionally, she won the 2019 Doral Publix Junior Championship in Miami, Fla., and the 2017 US Kids Teen World Championship in Pinehurst, N.C., and earned a runner-up finish at the 2017 US Kids European Championship in Scotland
