Following NC State women's soccer's emphatic 1-0 shutout victory over then No. 3 North Carolina last weekend, Maria Echezarreta and Jameese Joseph earned weekly honors from the Atlantic Coast Conference and TopDrawerSoccer on Tuesday.
Joseph was named this week's ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week, while Echezarreta earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week and TopDrawerSoccer Player of the Week honors.
For Joseph, this is the second consecutive week that she has earned the nod from the league office, while this marks Echezarreta's second honor from the ACC in the 2021 calendar year. Additionally, the national honor from TDS is the Spanish native's first of her career.
Joseph scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 26th minute on Saturday, as it was her team-leading seventh score of the season and third in as many matches. Echezarreta made a career-high eight saves in an incredible performance for her fourth shutout of the season.
Saturday's result over the Tar Heels marked NC State's first time ever securing wins over top five programs in the same year after defeating then-No. 4 Duke on the road on October 7, as well as its first time ever beating both teams in the same season.
The Wolfpack returns to action Thursday, October 21, when it travels to Wake Forest. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Spry Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C., and the match will be broadcast on the ACCNX.
