FROM THE DESK OF AD BOO CORRIGAN
The last six months haven't been what any of us would have hoped, expected or even thought possible. The pandemic has disrupted our normal day-to-day lives in ways we never thought it could and continues to create uncertainty as we move forward. We don't know what exactly is to come, but we know we are going to attack it head on. As one Pack.
While this fall is not how we imagined it, the think and do spirit of NC State is alive and well now more than ever! Despite the challenges of the current environment, our student-athletes, coaches and staff have quickly adapted and are preparing for fall competition. It may not be the traditional experience we have come to know and love with the normal pageantry and passion of our stadiums and arenas, but we remain committed to our student-athletes and their experience.
Much like the rest of the country, NC State Athletics is facing some significant challenges as a result of COVID-19. Our department is primarily funded through football & basketball ticket sales, television revenue and donations. With the uncertainty surrounding our ability to have fans in attendance and deliver the games required for television, the total potential financial impact could be $30-40 million. In anticipation of these challenges, we have taken proactive and on-going measures to substantially cut our operational budget. However, we are still facing a significant deficit as a result of lost revenue.
In an effort to address this deficit, University Advancement, NC State Athletics and the Wolfpack Club have launched the PRESERVE THE PACK ATHLETICS CAMPAIGN. Contributions to the Preserve the Pack will provide unrestricted funding for NC State Athletics to help cover the funding deficit created by COVID-19. Our goal is to maintain the best possible student-athlete experience and also protect NC State Athletics and all that it means to you and your family.
After announcing the difficult decision to suspend season tickets earlier this month, we rolled out the Preserve the Pack Athletics Campaign to our football season ticket-holders and I have been blown away by the response. More than 40% of our season ticket holders donated all or a portion of their season ticket balance, raising nearly $3.0 million for Preserve the Pack. At a time when we haven't been able to come together as a community, the response from our season ticket holders was incredibly uplifting. Thank you for your dedicated support. It shows that as a Pack we are Always Fighting, Never Alone.
In an effort to continue the positive momentum we are now asking all of Wolfpack Nation to help Preserve the Pack as part NC State's university-wide Day of Giving on Wednesday, September 16th. The unique challenges we face as a result of COVID-19 are unlike any opposition or adversity we have ever faced and there has never been a more important time to show that there is Strength in the Pack.
Thank you for your continued support of NC State Athletics and considering a gift to Preserve the Pack. "For the Strength of the Pack is the Wolf and the Strength of the Wolf is the Pack." Never has the spirit of those words been more relevant or necessary.
