RALEIGH – Sada Nahimana has signed her National Letter of Intent to become a part of the NC State women's tennis program, as announced by head coach Simon Earnshaw.
"Sada is an incredible player and person, and is a statement addition for our program," said Earnshaw. "Several years ago I saw her play at the Orange Bowl on one of the back courts and what immediately stood out to me was her exceptional movement and fighting spirit. The attitude and character she competed with really struck me in a way far beyond just the interest based on her not being from one of the typical countries of origin the majority of top tennis players emerge.
"I knew immediately at the time Sada would be a perfect fit for our program and have tracked her since then. However it wasn't until just recently that the opportunity presented itself. We are extremely fortunate to have her on board. Dave and I are committed to helping Sada along towards her dream of being a professional tennis player and being a standout student-athlete. The progress we've made as a program has been predicated on the development of our players and we continue to advance that process. Pack women's tennis continues to build momentum, and we're extremely excited to return to work with Sada joining the other two members of our 2020 recruiting class, Abigail and Millie, this fall! Go Pack!"
Nahimana boasts a high International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Junior Ranking of No. 12 (July 2019) and reached a high Women's Tennis Association (WTA) singles ranking of No. 472 (February 2020). Additionally, she holds a best WTA doubles ranking of No. 739. (Novemeber 2019).
She has been training at the ITF Training Center in Casablanca, Morroco for the past seven years.
Supported by the ITF program since she was 12 and by the ITF Grand Slam Development fund, Nahimana has won a total of three singles and nine doubles ITF junior titles and played in the main draw of 10 Grand Slam Juniors Champions events.
The Burundi native has been crowned the African Junior Championship winner in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019, and won the W25 Lagos in October 2019. She also reached three more singles W15 finals in Tunisia and Kenya.
In 2019, she claimed the Nottingham J1 singles and doubles titles, African Closed singles and doubles titles in Morocco and was a finalist at the Milan JA Trofeo Bonfiglio in singles and doubles.
In 2018, Nahimana made it to the singles final at the Mediterranee Avenir J1. She also took home the XXX Yucatan Cup J1 doubles trophy in 2016.
"I chose NC State because of the team spirit and how far the program has come. I was inspired by what they have achieved as a team," said Nahimana. "Go Pack!"
In her free time, she enjoys ping pong and running.
