RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State's name has been called often recently in the annual NFL Draft. Over the last four NFL Drafts, 17 Wolfpack players have had their names called - the No. 16 mark nationally and the third-best in the ACC. The Pack's 11 selections over the last two years is tied for the best mark in the ACC with Miami.
The draft preparation for both NFL teams and eligible players has been very different in 2020 due to the outbreak of COVID-19. The NFL Draft Combine did take place, but Pro Days (NC State's was scheduled to be held March 25) and visits to teams were shut down.
Before current stay-at-home orders and social distancing were put into place, a pair of former Wolfpack defensive linemen took part at the NFL Combine in late February.
Defensive lineman Larrell Murchison ran the 40-yard dash in 5.05 seconds, and boasted 29 reps on the bench press - which tied for fifth best among defensive lineman. The second-team All-ACC performer also showed off a 29-inch vertical jump.
DE James Smith-Williams posted the fastest 40-yard dash among all defensive linemen in Indianapolis, clocking in at 4.60. He turned in 28 reps on the bench press to go along with is 32-inch vertical jump.
In addition to Murchison and Smith-Williams going through the NFL vetting process, another handful of Pack players who wrapped up their college eligibility in 2019 also hope to hear their name called this weekend or to receive invites as undrafted rookie free agents: DB Stephen Griffin, DE Deonte Holden, WR Tabari Hines, OL Emanuel McGirt, Jr., DB Kishawn Miller, DB Jarius Morehead.
The 85th annual NFL Draft will take place Thursday through Saturday. The 2020 NFL Draft was originally set to take place in Las Vegas, but now will be held remotely, with teams conducting it via online conferencing software.
When:
Round 1 -- Thursday, April 23 at 8 p.m. ET
Rounds 2-3 -- Friday, April 24 at 7 p.m. ET
