MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Emily Fisher and John Peterson earned a pair of All-GARC honors Thursday evening, as announced at the conference banquet. The banquet is held as the kick off to the 2020 GARC Championships, Feb. 28-29, on the campus of the University of Memphis.
Peterson was honored as NC State's Scholar-Athlete while Fisher earned All-GARC Smallbore Honorable Mention. Fisher has been a mainstay this season for the Wolfpack, shooting smallbore in every competition in 2020. The sophomore owns NC State's top three smallbore scores of the season, highlighted by a career-high 587 against West Virginia on Nov. 17. Peterson competed in eight of the Pack's 12 meets this season. He shot a personal best 1164 aggregate score in NC State's dominant win against UT-Martin on Jan. 26. In that performance, Peterson recorded a career-high 581 in smallbore, the Pack's highest smallbore score in the season outside of Fisher.
"I'm very proud of the work the team and John, in particular, has put in in the classroom," said head coach Emily Holsoppole. "He came in his freshman year prepared to work and its paying off. John is really excelling in school, especially considering the difficulty of his major, mechanical engineering."
"Emily has been a consistent performer since joining the team," said Holsopple. "She has grown into a fantastic role model for the other athletes and is a fierce competitior on the line. We have no doubt that she will continue to be successful throughout her career at NC State. Her conference honor was well deserved."
NC State opens action at the GARC Championships tomorrow, competing in smallbore, with the air rifle competition to follow on Saturday, Feb. 29.
Congrats to our very own Emily Fisher and John Peterson for receiving a pair of GARC honors at the conference banquet tonight!
