Women’s Golf Adds Lauren Olivares Leon In Early Signing Period

RALEIGH – Lauren Olivares Leon has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to join the NC State women's golf program, as announced by head coach Page Marsh on Thursday.
A native of Celaya, Mexico, she will arrive in Raleigh next fall with a wealth of experience on the national and international levels of competition.
"We are so excited to have Lauren join our Pack Family, said Marsh. "She is highly competitive with experience on the world stage. Lauren has that resilient quality of a champion, as she is composed under pressure with the ability to quickly bounce back. Her work ethic, paired with her willingness to learn new things and push those around her to get better, is unmatched.
"Lauren chooses the harder path in her golf and in her academic choices but knows how to manage both to excel in the arena she finds her feet. We are excited for our bright future, as she will be a great ambassador for our program."
Olivares Leon, who finished third in the Mexican national rankings during the 2019-20 year, owns a combined 16 top 10 finishes, including 10 top three showings, in national and international tournament play since 2018. She also is currently ranked No. 802 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR).
In addition to her strong national and world rankings, she received 'Lo Mejor del Deporte Amateur Municipal' (The Best Amateur Sport Municipal 2020) in 2015 and '20 in her state of Guanajuato. The award recognizes successful young athletes who have represented the state.

Along with her success as an individual competitor, Olivares Leon also has an extensive resume in team tournament play. Along with helping her team win the 2019 Mexico Golf Cup, she was selected to represent Mexico at the 2019 Toyota Junior Golf World Championship in Japan, where the squad finished second. She also led Team Mexico to a third-place finish at the 2019 Girls Junior Americas Cup in Murrieta, Calif., and took fourth place as an individual.
