Annual award honors the top shooting guard in women’s NCAA Division I basketball
Fan Voting Begins Nov. 13
Springfield, Mass. – NC State women's basketball sophomore Jakia Brown-Turner has been named one of 20 watch list candidates for the 2021 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, an annual honor that recognizes the top shooting guard in women's NCAA Division I basketball.
Wolfpack fans are encouraged to participate in this year's Fan Voting during each of the three rounds. In early February, the watch list will be narrowed to just 10. In early March, five finalists will be presented to Ann Meyers Drysdale and the Hall of Fame's selection committee.
A true wing player and a Preseason All-ACC honoree, Brown-Turner was named to the All-ACC Freshman Team following her rookie season, as selected by both the league's head coaches and the Blue Ribbon Panel. She played in all 32 games and made the start in 31 outings, the most starts by a freshman in the Wes Moore era. The Oxon Hill, Md., averaged 9.4 points per game during the 2019-20 campaign and compiled a scoring average of 10.1 points per game in league action, during which she hit double figures in 11 of 18 ACC games.
Brown-Turner shot 42.2 percent (114-of-270) overall and 36.8 percent (43-of-117) from distance in 2019-20, with her three-point percentage ranking fourth among all freshmen in the program's history. She tallied a career-high 18 points in two conference outings and finished out the year by posting her first career double-double at the ACC Tournament with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the championship game.
The winner of this season's Ann Meyers Drysdale Award will be presented April 9, 2021 alongside the other four members of the Women's Starting Five. For more information on the award and to vote beginning Nov. 13, visit HoopHallAwards.com.
