CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. – The NC State volleyball team is set to conclude its fall road schedule this weekend, with a pair of games against the Virginia Cavaliers. The Wolfpack will take on Virginia Friday, Oct. 23 at 4 p.m. on ACC Network followed by a 6:30 p.m. matchup Saturday evening. Saturday's match will be on ACCNX.
THE MATCHUP
It will be a battle of defenses this weekend as NC State (0-4) ranks fourth in the ACC in lowest opponent hitting percentage (.182) while Virginia is ninth and allowing opponents a .205 hitting percentage.
Last weekend against the Tar Heels, Jade Parchment had an outstanding performance with a pair of double-digit kill performances. Parchment currently leads the team with 3.50 kills per set and also ranks third with 2.29 digs per set.
Virginia (1-3) fell to Virginia Tech in a pair of matches last weekend, both in four sets. The Cavaliers lone win this season came against The Citadel on Sept. 18. Grace Turner is Virginia's current leader with 3.71 kills per set on the season.
Virginia leads the all-time series 39-29, however, NC State has controlled it in most recent years with four consecutive wins against the Cavaliers. The Wolfpack last lost to Virginia Nov. 20, 2015.
MILESTONE FOR EVANS
On Sunday, Oct. 18, Melissa Evans recorded an important career milestone, reaching 1,000 career kills. Evans became the first NC State athlete to reach the milestone since Julia Brown in 2017 and she is now one of five active players in the ACC to have over 1,000 kills. The only player in the ACC to do so in less matches played than Evans, is Syracuse's Polina Shemanova.
