Wolfpack Sweeps ACC Weekly Honors, Galarneau Named UTR/ITA National Player of the Week

RALEIGH - Senior Alexis Galarneau has been named ACC Player of the Week and has garnered the ACC Doubles Team of the Week distinction with junior Robert Turzak, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Galarneau has additionally been named UTR/ITA Division I Men's Player of the Week, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Tuesday.
This is the second consecutive week and the third time in his career that Galarneau has collected the ACC Player of the Week accolade. It marks the first time that the tandem of Galarneau and Turzak has been named ACC Doubles Team of the Week.
Galarneau was an instrumental part of the Wolfpack punching its first-ever ticket to the ITA Division I National Men's Team Indoor Championship during the 2020 ITA Kickoff Weekend. He was the first member of the team to secure a win in singles competition against Utah State, defeating Sergiu Bucur in straight sets as well as without dropping a game.
Against No. 23 Virginia, the Laval, Canada native defeated Carl Soderlund to clinch the match for NC State. Soderlund was ranked No. 1 in the 2019-2020 Preseason Oracle/ITA Rankings.
Galarneau and Turzak won both of their matches during the ITA Kickoff Weekend to help the Wolfpack secure the doubles points. The pair's first win of the weekend came in a 6-2 decision over Bucur and Roko Savin of Utah State.
In the Wolfpack's win over Virginia, it was Galarneau and Turzak who clinched the doubles point over No. 53 Gianni Ross and William Woodall with a 6-2 victory.
The Wolfpack makes trips to Penn (Feb. 1 at 12:30 p.m.) and Princeton (Feb. 2 at 2 p.m.) before it travels to Madison, Wisc. Feb. 14-17 for the ITA Indoors Championship.
