ESPN | WatchESPN
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's basketball team (13-5, 4-3 ACC) takes its two-game winning streak on the road Monday as it travels to Charlottesville, Va., to take on the Virginia Cavaliers (12-5, 4-3 ACC).
It is the first of three Big Monday games for the Pack this season. Monday's game will be televised on ESPN with Sean McDonough, Jay Bilas and Allison Williams on the call. NC State fans can also listen to Gary Hahn and Tony Haynes call the action on the Wolfpack Sports Network.
Pack Tracks
- NC State held off Clemson, 60-54, on Saturday to win its second consecutive ACC contest. The Pack led by 18 points five minutes into the second half and still had a 13-point lead with three minutes to go, but Clemson made one final rally, cutting the lead to five with 21 seconds to go.
- Junior forward D.J. Funderburk led the Pack with his first career double-double, finishing with 13 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Devon Daniels and Markell Johnson also both added 13 points while C.J. Bryce also reached double figures with 11 points.
- Funderburk is playing the best basketball of his collegiate career currently. The Cleveland, Ohio native is averaging 17 points and 8.5 rebounds per game over the last six outings and has scored in double figures in eight consecutive games. In ACC games, Funderburk ranks third in the conference in field goal percentage (55.4%) and offensive rebounding (3.5). He has shot over 50 percent in 13 of the 16 games he's played in this season. He is shooting 63.3% from the field on the season and would lead the ACC in that category but he is only averaging 4.75 field goals made per game and need to average 5.0 field goals per game to be ranked.
Monday Storylines
- Saturday's win over Clemson proved costly for the Pack. Freshman Manny Bates left the game with 11:39 remaining in the first half after taking a direct blow to the neck. He did not return to the lineup. Pat Andree was injured in the final minute of the game after coming down awkwardly while going for a defensive rebound. The status of Andree and Bates for the game on Monday is undetermined. If both players are unable to play at Virginia, NC State will only have seven scholarship players (and nine players total) available to play. If the duo doesn't play, they'll become the fifth and sixth scholarship players on NC State's team this year to miss a game because of injury.
- Manny Bates has started all 18 games for NC State this season. If he is unable to play, Monday will mark the eighth different starting lineup for the Pack this season. Last season, NC State only had seven different starting lineup combinations in 36 games.
- Monday pits the ACC's #1 scoring defense (49.5 points) and #1 field goal percentage defense (35.6%) in Virginia against NC State's #2 scoring offense (77.4 points) #4 field goal percentage offense (45.6%). In 18 games this season, NC State has only scored under 70 points three times (and only scored under 60 points once) and only shot below 40% from the floor three times. In 87 games of the Kevin Keatts era, NC State has only scored under 50 points one time.
- NC State has held three consecutive opponents to under 40 percent shooting from the field. It marks the second time in the Kevin Keatts era that the Pack has held three straight teams to under 40 percent shooting. (First time that it has happened against three consecutive ACC opponents)
- Senior guard Markell Johnson enters Monday's game with 988 career points. He is 12 points shy of 1,000 for his career. When he reaches 1,000 points, he'll become the 53rd player in program history to score 1,000 points and just the 4th player in program history to post 1,000 points, 500 assists and 125 steals in their career.
- In the first 46 games of his NC State career, junior forward D.J. Funderburk only led the Pack in scoring one time. After tying for team-high honors with 13 points on Saturday in the win over Clemson, Funderburk has now led NC State in scoring in five of the last six games.
- Junior guard Braxton Beverly has not committed a turnover in the last five games, a stretch of 127 minutes of game action.
- Get Devon Daniels Going: In 13 wins this season, Devon Daniels is averaging 12.6 points on 52.0% shooting and 5.0 rebounds per game. In the five losses, Daniels is averaging 7.6 points on 35.9% shooting and 4.0 rebounds per game.
