RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's tennis program is adding Thomas Mozur to the staff as a volunteer assistant coach, as announced by head coach Kyle Spencer on Monday.
"We are so fortunate to have someone of Thomas' pedigree joining our coaching staff," said Spencer. "Thomas built a very strong program at UNCG through development and determination. He will bring a wealth of knowledge to our team. We may be the only program in college tennis that has three head coaches on staff. This season promises to be a be an exciting one, and we can't wait to get started!"
Mozur comes to NC State with 10 years of head coaching experience at UNCG. He was named head men's tennis coach for the Spartans in 2004. Under Mozur's leadership, the Spartan men claimed the program's first Southern Conference Championship title in 2010 and earned their first-ever bid to the NCAA Championships that same season.
While head coach for UNCG, Mozur developed his players to rank among the best in the Southern Conference. Over his last five seasons at UNCG, he saw nine players earn All-Conference honors in singles and five doubles pairs garner All-SoCon Team designations. Mozur also coached Orcun Seyrek to Southern Conference Player of the Year honors in both 2009 and 2012. He helped the Spartans post two undefeated seasons at home in 2010 and 2013.
Most recently, Mozur held the title of Director of Junior Tennis at Raleigh Racquet Club (RRC), where he developed some of the best junior programs in the state of North Carolina. In addition, he was the director of the RRC Academy program where he helped to start the program from its inception and built it up to 25 full-time tournament players who worked towards the goal of playing college tennis. The most rewarding part of Mozur's four-year stint was successfully helping 100% of his Academy players reach collegiate tennis.
A native of Knoxville, Tenn., and a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Mozur was a four-year letter winner with the Volunteers. As a senior in 1997, he was named team captain for the Volunteers.
