Wolfpack completes four-member class
June 7, 2019
Â
RALEIGH – NC State rifle head coach Emily Holsopple announced Friday the addition of Addy Burrow and Aliya Butt to the program's most recent signing class. The two student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent (NLI) to compete for the Wolfpack starting with the 2019-20 academic year.
Â
The pair of signees will join Makenzie Sheffield and John Peterson, whose signed NLIs were announced in December and January, respectively.
Â
"We are very excited to welcome Addy and Aliya to the Pack," Holsopple said. "They are both coming to us from very well-established club programs with success on the national level. We can't wait to welcome the incoming class to campus and get next season rolling. The excitement and talent coming in is something we are very fortunate to have."
Â
Addy Burrow | Georgia Competitive Shooters/Ole Mill Rangers
A native of Williamson, Ga., Addy Burrow was a Junior Olympics state champion in 2017 and 2018. She claimed top honors on the Standing Air Rifle team at Junior Army Nationals in 2019 and earned Third Team recognition at CMP Nationals in 2018 and competed on the team that finished second at CMP Nationals in 2015. Burrow also earned first place J2 at CMP Nationals in 2015 and earned a runner-up finish in the "B" category at USAS Nationals in 2017.

Â
"Addy has already experienced success at the junior level and has been starting to reach big numbers, and we know there is still so much more she is capable of achieving," Holsopple said.
Â
Outside of competition, Burrow volunteers with her church to provide services and meals for disadvantaged members of her local community. She enjoys reading, playing piano, painting, and has already graduated from Southern Crescent Technical College with an Associate of Arts degree. Burrow also enjoys spending time with her 11 siblings.
Â
Aliya Butt | Taunton Marksmanship Unit
A native of Franklin, Mass., Aliya Butt is a five-time Junior Olympian (2015, 16, 17, 18, 19) and a four-time Massachusetts state champion among Junior Olympic state qualifiers. She took third place individually at the 2019 U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit Junior Rifle Nationals (Air Rifle) while her team also earned third. In 2017, she was the Eastern AMU Women's Air Rifle Champion and was the Taunton Marksmanship Unit's team captain during the 2018-19 season.

Â
"Aliya is a very organized shooter who brings a fantastic attitude and energy to the team. I absolutely loved watching her grow over the past year and cannot wait to see what she achieves at NC State," Holsopple added.
Â
In addition to her impressive competition credentials, Butt is an honor roll student at Franklin High School, interns at a physical therapy and sports medicine office, and is a member of her high school's chapter of Girl Up, a non-profit organization that provides education to girls in developing countries. Butt also enjoys reading and loves to cook with her three sisters.
