Smith Earns ACC Freshman of the Week Honors for Fifth Time This Season

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Alana Smith has been named ACC Freshman of the Week for the fifth time this season, sharing this week's honors with Miami freshman Daevenia Achong, as announced by the conference on Tuesday. No. 68 Smith went undefeated this past weekend in singles and doubles play combined (4-0).
The Fort Washington, Md., native defeated No. 32 Kelly Chen (Duke) in singles play on court two for her fifth ranked singles win of the season, and also picked up a ranked doubles win at Duke against No. 81 Kelly Chen and Ellyse Hamlin, marking No. 9 Rogers and Smith's 11th ranked doubles win of the season.
On Sunday, Smith won in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) against Georgia Tech's Nami Otsuka and also contributed to the team's double point with a 6-3 victory over Gia Cohen and Nami Otsuka, which led to a 4-3 victory over the Yellow Jackets.
The freshman's efforts helped the team earn its first victory over Georgia Tech since 1998.
Smith's 10 conference singles wins are tied for second most in program history in a season.
