The Pack moves to 11-3 (3-1) on the season
RALEIGH – The No. 11 NC State women's tennis team defeated No. 49 Louisville Friday afternoon, 6-1. Off to its best start in conference play in 20 years, the Pack moves to 11-3 (3-1).
Louisville drops to 10-4 (2-2) on the season.
The Pack secured the doubles point to give the team the 1-0 advantage heading into singles play. The 10th-ranked doubles duo in the nation, Anna Rogers and Alana Smith recorded their 20th win of the season, defeating Sena Suswam and Dina Chaika, 6-4.
Adriana Reami and Claudia Wiktorin picked up their third straight doubles win, 6-3, to capture the doubles point. Trailing 2-0 to start doubles play, Reami and Wiktorin rattled off six of the next seven games to take the match over Chloe Hamlin and Aleksandra Mally.
In singles, the Pack wasted no time, claiming all six first sets. No. 25 Rogers and No. 73 Smith cruised to two-set victories, extending NC State's lead, 3-0. Clinching the match, No. 88 Adriana Reami defeated Aleksandra Mally, 6-4, 6-2.
Seniors Bianca Moldovan and Amanda Rebol extended their win streaks to six and four respectively.
Straight from the Pack: Head Coach Simon Earnshaw
"We're happy we managed to get another ACC win. I think, historically, we should never take that lightly. It's always hard-fought and hard-earned, and we'll never take that for granted. I feel like we still have work to do in doubles. We made a good start today. We weren't able to keep or gain any particular momentum on any one court. We did run through and take the doubles point.
"In singles, I thought Anna did a great job. I thought she got out there and was very organized and disciplined. Today, Alana kept herself collected, which is not always her forte. It was the same thing with Adriana, and then with Amanda at the end of the day. In a couple spots, we had leads, and then we kind of got away from what we do. I think moving forward, if as a team we can do that from start to finish, then everything's going to be very positive. I'm sure we'll be able to keep growing as a unit, and hopefully then the results will be able to take care of themselves."
