RALEIGH – NC State softball head coach Jennifer Patrick-Swift announced the addition of Brianna Nykaza to the program's 2019 signing class on Wednesday.
A utility player from Chicago, Ill., she is the sixth player to join Patrick-Swift's first signing class at the helm of the Wolfpack.
"Brianna brings a wealth of playing experience with her to NC State after being a member of the Greek National Team," said Patrick-Swift. "She competed against high-level international players, and teams, and found success. Her ability to play multiple positions along with her knowledge of the game is going to help our team."
Last year, Nykaza was selected to play for the Greek National Team in the U22 European Championship in Slovakia, where she compiled a .500 batting average, as well as the Super Six Tournament in Amsterdam.
A standout at Whitney Young Magnet High School, she holds the single-season records for hits (73), batting average (.658), RBI (65) and doubles (27) from her sophomore season in 2017. In addition to helping Whitney Young to its first-ever softball conference championship her freshman year, Nykaza is a three-time all-conference selection and two-time all-state honoree.
She was selected to the 2018 Independence Day Tournament All-Star Team and currently ranks eighth in career doubles in the state of Illinois.
In the classroom, she has been a member of the National Junior Honor Society and an honor roll recipient since she was a freshman. Nykaza was also named a Principal's Scholar in 2017 and '18.
